When we are freely bound to Christ, we are bound for freedom from slavery. Paul uses the story of Sarah and Hagar as a metaphor, but we must first address the issue of slavery. Does the Bible reinforce slavery? No. The end and destruction of slavery, and racism, are written into the very pages of scripture. We are bound for freedom. Still, the main point today is that there are two covenants. One is the covenant of works, which we could never satisfy. The other is the covenant of grace. Jesus satisfied the covenant of works so that he could bring us the covenant of grace. By faith in him we are made children of God and heirs of the promise. We are bound for freedom.
