Awake
Awake to Women
- Tim McConnell
May. 29
Again and again, Jesus demonstrates awareness and full dignity toward women. It is difficult for us to reach back into a time when women were diminished so terribly and disregarded so horribly. But this represents most of world history. Jesus was radical in his regard for women (Luke 10). Radical in his inclusion of women among his disciples (Luke 8). Ultimately radical in appointing and sending a woman to proclaim his resurrection news (John 20; our basis for women’s ordination). Where many were asleep to the ways women can be disregarded and dehumanized, Jesus was awake.
