Discipleship does not mean groveling in self-disdain. God calls us to sober self-assessment. I’m not the best man there ever was, and I’m not the worst. “The best of men is a man at best.” I have faults I should be aware of, and allow humble assessment of others to learn what it is like to be on the other side of me. I have limitations. There is only so much I can do. But I also have gifts to bring to the mission of the church. We all do.
