Why is God so interested in expanding belonging? God is a God of eternal belonging in community. The Trinity is the Divine Community of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The mission of God to the world He made, the mission we participate in, is a mission of an ever-expanding inclusion into the divine community of love between Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God purposes to make of the world a true family united to His own (G. MacDonald, Knowing the Heart of God). Belonging is a big deal. We were made with this longing and it only comes home to God and the divine and eternal community.
