Freedom
Freedom – Free to Love
- Tim McConnell
Oct. 30
Martin Luther said, "A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all." (Freedom of the Christian) Having been liberated by Jesus, we are free to love and serve one another. This is a liberating constraint; a limit that brings life. We put ourselves into humble service of God and neighbor. In that position, we are free from the tyranny of our self-centered existence. We are free to enjoy relationship and friendship. We represent Jesus and His self-giving sacrifice. Having been freed, we serve, to the glory of God. (Like St. Patrick, who returned to evangelize his captors.) Freedom in Christ is very different from what the world calls freedom, and so much better.
